lay down to sleep & Imagine glory

THAT’S WHAT I WANT TO do. Maybe this painting will get me there.

It is vain for you to rise early, To retire late, To eat the bread of anxious labors— For He gives to His beloved even in her sleep.

-Psalm 127:2

This photo at left was taken at my latest painting session on Friday , November 8th. I mostly worked on the vegetation—milkweed and southwestern grasses. More to come….!

OUR BEDROOM: It isn’t a cathedral, but I want high Church visuals to center my mind before I power off at night. And God help me to sleep! “Dreams” is a headboard I am making for our bed; a work in progress. We picked up this half moon wooden shape, an old table top, on vacation in Mancos, Colorado, outside of a spring green building with the simple word “Thrift,” written in this exact font. I asked how much they wanted for the half table topper, but the shop owner gave it to me. That’s the kind of thrift I dream about!

Seriously, my best dreams are about getting a really good deal on something: I walked into the Estate Sale at Windsor Castle and everything was just a dollar! How about a sweet deal on salvation? That would be a pretty great dream. Christ is therefore the center of this dream, the ultimate REM marvel that has yet to meet my subconscious. People have dreams of Christ. I do not. I take comfort in the verse at right: Psalm 127:2. You might also find it comforting to know that when you lay down, daily frustrated by mortal limitations, God continues to work—and not just work in a general way, but in a specific, generous and kind way for us all, individually.

Acrylic underpainting on half-moon shaped prepared wood panel. 30 x 48” half circle. NFS. September 2024.
